About Us

Shenfield Operatic Society, known as SOS, is an amateur dramatics society in Essex, specialising in musical theatre. The society was founded in 1962 when a small group of teachers formed the St Martin’s Operatic Society at St Martin’s Secondary School for Boys. With an initial fund of two shillings and sixpence (around 12.5p!) they set out to produce South Pacific which they performed in the school hall in March 1962. You can read more about our history here.

SOS produce two shows a year, usually a large-scale production in February and a smaller show or concert in June. We are always on the lookout for new members, both on stage and behind the scenes. If you would like more information about joining or would like to be added to our mailing list for future show information, please visit the contact us page.

Shenfield Operatic Society are a member of NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association).
